The Great Gatsby: A Radio Play
The Great Gatsby: A Radio Play was presented by Meadows Theater on December 9th & 10th. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s beloved classic came to life as a 1940s radio broadcast in an original adaptation, written by a team of RMHS students. An ensemble of over 50 actors, foley artists, and musicians brought more than two dozen characters from the novel to the RMHS stage, complete with 40s-era commercials and live jazz music! The production came together over the course of seven rehearsals as a fundraiser for the theater program. This radio play marks the fourth year of this fundraising tradition and gives students the opportunity to experiment with a different theatrical form. The Great Gatsby also ran during every block on Monday, December 12th for junior English classes studying the novel to see.
“I liked how it was very realistic to the book and I liked all of the sound effects, it was very entertaining.” Junior Yoanna Avdjiev said.
Students participated in a talk-back after the show with the cast, crew, and jazz combo, asking questions about the process and how the adaptation came together. Meadows Theater is extremely grateful for all the support of the RMHS community in making this production so successful!
