How to stay safe during the holidays
Christmas is upon us! A time of lights, ice skating, snowman making, watching movies and just feeling Christmas cheer, in the celebration of Jesus Christ’s life, is the holiday many people look forward to every year. During this unprecedented time of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to remember that during this holiday that many hold dear, we must think of others and remain safe. With rising COVID-19 numbers many people wouldn’t want to practice Christmas unsafely, only to be put in a lockdown in the new year. It may be hard, so in this article, I’ll be giving you ideas on how this year’s Christmas can be the most memorable to come.
- NETFLIX PARTY
Personally, one of the best things about the days leading up to Christmas is watching Christmas classics and heartfelt Christmas movies that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Netflix’s platform of Netflix party allows you to do that, even if it may be from far away. Chat with each other as you watch, or even FaceTime them at the same time to share your thoughts and feelings, cry at the happy scenes, anything! It’s always important to stay in contact with your friends and family especially during these difficult times.
- CHRISTMAS CAROLS
Another one of my favorite activities is going Christmas caroling! Christmas has been celebrated for centuries. In all those years, many Christmas songs have been created and passed down, turning into some of our favorite holiday tunes (link the story about best Christmas songs). Gather a small group of friends or family, set up a bonfire in your backyard, wear masks and spread the Christmas cheer!
- BAKING
Who doesn’t love eating Christmas foods like gingerbread, eggnog, making gingerbread houses, and learning something new? Look up a recipe on Pinterest, grab your mixing bowl and apron and make something delicious! My favorite easy Christmas treat is the Ginger Men s’mores.
- HOLIDAY PHOTOSHOOT
I don’t know about you, but my friends, my family, and I LOVE taking pictures and storing memories. Although there isn’t any snow, and there might not be for a while, set up an artsy photoshoot background with Christmas lights, visit the Christmas tree in Millenium park, dress up, and have fun. Make sure that you steer clear of large groups of people, social distance, wear a mask (or two) and take a small group of friends. Better yet, take your family so the risk of COVID-19 spread is less of a concern.
- GET YOUR CRAFT ON!
Go to the dollar tree, grab some supplies and CRAFT! It may not be as hard as you think, (or maybe it is). The fun part is trying to make a beautiful piece of art and the pride you have once you have made it. This is the perfect holiday activity for your family, which you can do while listening to some holiday tunes, watching holiday movies or baking cookies!
Although it may seem like this year is the most impossible year in your life, take advantage of the things that you can do and have a very merry Christmas!
