During the month of February, the United States celebrates Black History Month to honor the black people who helped change history. One of the women that are honored this month is Sojourner Truth. Truth wrote a well-known speech about women’s rights and how women are not treated as well as they are claimed to be.

“A woman who made black and American history alike,” “The View” said about Truth.

With the confidence she had in herself, she was able to stand up and speak her mind. That allowed her to win three court cases, one that involved her personally and two that involved the whole community. Truth was determined to be the cause of the change that is needed.

“If the first woman God ever made was strong enough to turn the world 

upside down all alone, these women together ought to be able to turn it back, and get it right side up again,” Truth said in her speech.

During the time being, she put herself in the spotlight to bring attention to herself and to be the first person ever to stand up for the rights of women and the African American race. She used that fame to give autographs to others and to raise money. 

Truth was one of the first people to show that actual change towards society can bring inspiration for those thinking about standing up for change. It seemed scary to do at first but to create a community around herm, she had to become the first to walk down the line alone before followers come along. She never gave up due to her attitude towards discrimination between white and black.

Similar to Truth, many others also help to create a change in our country. This is seen through the recent Black Lives Matter movement that showed the difficulties of discrimination and the bravery of the people who decided to stand up and protest as Truth did.
