Although the much anticipated tennis season just started on Aug. 13, the determined girls of RMHS have already had a great start on the courts and sits with a record of 6-5.
The Varsity team has had a good beginning to their season so far with six wins and five losses, and there is much more to come.
Sophomore Maddie Hrtanek, a varsity tennis player who plays first singles, currently holds a 15-1 record. Despite this record, she has faced some tough matches. “The toughest school to play is probably New Trier or Stevenson,” Hrtanek said.
The varsity team as a whole finished second place at an away tournament last week where they fought against some tough schools like Bennett, St. Charles, and Conant.
On the lower levels, the JV team showcased their skills by beating Hoffman Estates 5-2, and Wheeling with an outstanding 7-0. However, they faced a challenge, losing to Schaumburg High School 5-2 in a competitive match that featured four third-set tiebreakers. “The season is going pretty good; we’ve won the majority of our matches,” Sophomore Elly Davis said.
The freshman/sophomore team demonstrated their impressive skill and determination by securing two notable victories against Hoffman Estates and Wheeling High School while only being defeated a single time by Schaumburg High School. This young team has a lot to look forward to this season.
