Every year during October, millions of Americans put up decorations and plan costumes for Halloween. Kids go trick-or-treating, and adults hand out candy. But that leaves teenagers somewhere in the middle. Should they still trick-or-treat and dress up? Or should they celebrate the holiday more calmly? Most teenagers are unsure on what to do.
At RMHS, students are divided about the holiday. “Halloween is kinda boring.” Mary Linker, a senior at Meadows, said. Once younger kids grow up, there is not much magic to the holiday. It seems like most students don’t make the holiday a big deal.
“I stay home and watch movies while eating candy with my friends,” junior Kate McMahon summarizes.
Trick-or-treating seems to be a controversial activity for teens. Is it weird if they go? Most feel awkward. But some like to celebrate by going out. “I really look forward to trick or treating every year!” freshman Leighla Moriarity said.
Personally, I still think it’s fun to celebrate Halloween. I like to dress up and go out to celebrate. Even though teens might not go out and get candy like they used to, we can still have fun by throwing parties and dressing up. And if they do want to go trick or treating, that’s fine too. Halloween, at the end of the day, is just about having fun. I think everyone should celebrate in the ways that make them most comfortable. If that’s staying in or going out, to each their own.
