The fall of 2025 saw strong performances across multiple Mustang athletic programs. The season was marked by breakthrough wins, playoff appearances, and individual state-qualifying efforts.
Football
Under new head coach Devonte Amos, the Rolling Meadows football program captured its first playoff victory
since 2019. The Mustangs beat the Riverside-Brookfield Bulldogs with a 29-23 score in the first round, thanks to a crucial stop by senior Josh Rappa on a two-point conversion attempt, followed by a 68-yard touchdown run by senior Keeling Murray that secured the win. The offense featured standout performances all season: quarterback Joe Brigham put up six total touchdowns (three passing, three rushing) in a 59-27 win over Buffalo Grove, while running back Luke Harvey ran for 232 yards on 18 carries in that same game.
Though the playoff run didn’t extend further, the milestone win and strategic leadership under Coach Amos have laid a strong foundation for future seasons.
Flag Football
Meanwhile, the girls flag football team delivered a standout season. They rolled to dominant wins, 27–0 over Lakes, 32–16 versus Conant, 38–6 at West Chicago and 24–12 against Prospect, Behind this success partly stood the Andriano sisters: senior Lizzy Andriano made a “wicked” diving catch to help secure a tight win, and junior Anna Andriano pulled in a game-winning touchdown from outstanding junior quarterback Caylee Del Boccio in the final seconds. Head coach, Schaap lauded freshman linebacker Kate Andriano for her instincts, saying, ‘you would never know she is a freshman.’
The team also suffered close losses, including 25–30 to Hersey and 12–13 to Buffalo Grove, but the squad demonstrated resilience and clutch performance. The rising leadership shows that Rolling Meadows is in the growing landscape of high school flag football.
Tennis – Highlight
Sophomore Maddie Hrtanek delivered an impressive season at No. 1 singles for Rolling Meadows, finishing with a strong 27–14 varsity record. At the 2025 IHSA Tennis state series, she battled through a close opening-round match before rebounding with two convincing wins in the consolation bracket, ultimately finishing her run against West Aurora. According to Journal & Topics, Hrtanek “qualified for state in fourth place,” and her state appearance and multiple postseason victories underscore a standout season.
Soccer
The Mustang boys soccer team endured a challenging fall season, finishing with a 2–8–3 record. They recorded
notable matches such as a 4–1 win over Schaumburg, a 2–2 draw against Palatine, and a 3–1 loss to Fremd,
showcasing both competitive spirit and areas for growth. Midway through the season, the team lost senior Samuel “Samu” Alfaro, which affected his teammates and coaches. Rolling Meadows Principal Megan Kelly said Samu’s passing “has deeply impacted his classmates, teammates, teachers, and all of us who are part of the Rolling Meadows High School community.” In tribute, the Mustangs honored him by wearing his No. 7 jersey before a non-conference match. Despite the loss, the team persevered, drawing strength from one another and continuing to compete with determination to finish the season.
Girls Swimming (+ conclusion)
Finally, the girls swimming team had a strong showing at the 2025 IHSA State Finals, finishing 19th as a team with 35 points. The Mustangs’ standout performances included the 200‑yard medley relay team – Vera Conic, Ella Poortinga, Emily Sang, and Elise North, which placed 12th in the finals with a time of 1:46.68, and senior Vera Conic, who earned a remarkable 2nd-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.10 seconds. These individual and team achievements showcased the dedication and skill of the swimmers throughout the season. As the last sport to wrap up the Mustangs’ fall season, their state finals performance provided a strong and memorable finish to Rolling Meadows’ fall athletic campaign.
