The RMHS Mustangs came out victorious with a 28-13 win over Buffalo Grove, continuing their impressive season. Though the team started slowly, they gained momentum throughout the game and finished strong with a balanced offensive effort.
“I’m happy for the kids. They did really good things to give themselves a chance to win,” said Head Coach Gould. “We stepped out and had a competitive presence. It was a team effort, and I’m proud of them—it’s never easy to win, but they did their job all week and today they won.”
While the team showed strong cohesion, Coach Gould emphasized the need for further improvements. “We just need to go back and work on fundamentals and technique so we can get ready for next week,” he added.
Junior wide receiver and cornerback Arman Lepuzanovic echoed the slow start but praised the team’s adjustment. “We started the game slow, but then we started running the ball and got a lot better at it. When we ran the ball, we opened up the pass,” said Lepuzanovic. Reflecting on his own performance, he admitted, “I think I could have done better,” but remained confident for the future, stating, “The goal is always to win, and we can get that win next week.”
Jake Harvey, a junior wide receiver, also acknowledged the team’s sluggish start but noted the improvements as the game progressed. “We tried to run the ball, but it didn’t work at first. Towards the end, we started throwing, and it ended up working,” said Harvey. Looking ahead to the next game, he expressed excitement. “We go against Prospect—it’s always a fun one, so we’ll try our best.”
Next week, the Mustangs will take on Prospect High School in their homecoming game. The game will be played at RMHS at 7:30 PM, with a “Wear White” theme for fans to show their school spirit. The Mustangs are looking to continue their winning streak in front of a home crowd.
